Viki Gómez x Sumo x Esch 2022

When BMX Flatland world champion Jorge ‘Viki’ Gómez hit me up asking for a collaboration I couldn’t say no. I’ve always admired his skills and we used to bump into eachother all the time. We wanted to collaborate for a long time so I had to catch this opportunity.

He had been selected as an ambassador for Esch European City of Culture 2022 and had a very special project in mind. The idea was to have a portable floor he will be showing his BMX skills on throughout Luxembourg. This floor should be realized in collaboration with an artist and symbolise the diversity of the different cultures united by sport.

He wanted an artpiece to ride on. A surface that includes culture and sport in a very creative way. Originally this flat board was planned to be square but I’ve proposed him a little twist…creating a one of a kind giant bubble with a diameter of 6m.

Made out of portable wooden boards, each weighing about 30kg, it can be transported and easily installed anywhere.

Viki showing off his skills on my piece of art almost seems like he is becoming a part of it. A fusion of his and my art.
